AYG Torch Relay 2009: Igniting Sporting Passion in Asia 's Youth.

The AYG torch relay’s School Leg was held on the 29 th June 2009 to coincide with the opening of the new school term

To give one's best, on the field of play or in life. It is not only about winning, but also about participating, making a commitment to progress against personal goals, striving to be and to do our best in our daily lives.

 

Our respected Mr Ahmad Raqi who has been teaching in our school for the last 27 years was chosen to run the Lap of Respect to promote the

Core Value of the YOG 2010: Respect

To respect oneself and one's body, to respect others, as well as rules and regulations, and to respect the environment. In relation to sport, respect stands for keeping true to one's integrity, engaging in fair play and fighting against doping or any other unethical behavior.

Core Value of the YOG 2010: Friendship

To build a peaceful and better world through sport: building on solidarity, team spirit, joy and optimism. To promote sport as an opportunity for teamwork, camaraderie and mutual understanding among individuals from all over the world, despite the differences.

The Lap of Friendship by Aqbar, our deserving Individual Sports Day Champion 2009, with our Flag bearers Shakthi & Navin in the background.

This torch relay has met its purpose of making the AYG remain in the hearts and minds of Woodlanders. It has incited excitement and gathered support for the youth sporting heroes from all over Asia !

'The torch relay is a very symbolic and iconic act in the sporting world. It is a privilege to stage our very own torch relay to commemorate the beginning of the AYG. We believe that through the torch relay, we will be able to gather support and further promote the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect - the core of sportsmanship - island-wide.'
