Thoughts of AYG Liaison Officers
My greatest contribution to AYG is that I have successfully played my part as an Liaison Officer (Team Leader) to the NOC (that I have been assigned) contributing to the success of the 1 st Asian Youth Games and that the athletes and team official of the NOC that I am assigned to had an enjoyable and memorable Asian Youth Games experience.

My AYG experience was a memorable and a very beneficial experience. This experience really helped me a lot in terms of the way I socialize with other friends and people from a totally different background. I have also learnt a lot about the other countries in Asia, their culture, the food they consume, traditional costumes, their way of life and a lot about their country. This experience would really help me a lot as I aspire to be a traveling journalist or a reporter for the media covering major events. I was attached to the Bangladesh basketball athletes and I really learnt a lot of values from them. I learnt about the importance of being patient, being loyal and committed, putting in a lot of hard work and perseverance. This experience shaped me a lot and changed me to a mature person. It has made me to look at life from a new point of perspective. Not forgetting Miss Selvi who also helped me a lot along the way. I am really grateful I am given this opportunity. Thank you everyone! This experience is a special one and I am 1 of the few students in my class who has had this rare experience. I am really feeling very happy and grateful for being granted this sensational and special opportunity. This experience will definitely be an added advantage for me and I will use it to the fullest.

I feel proud to be part of the inaugural AYG. Although I consider what I did to be insignificant comparing to the people who had to work 24/7-round-the-clock schedules prior to and in the midst of the event, I know that my contribution had made the event a successful one as I ensured that my athletes were ready for the competitions as well as happy during their stay in Singapore. Time spent away from my graduating class and the mounting work that waited for my return after AYG was hence made worthwhile. My greatest learning from my involvement in AYG… Given the scope of the job of an LO as well as the scale of AYG, it was a rather steep learning curve for me having to work with so many people all at one time. I learnt at the end of the experience I was able to adjust to changes quickly and can be quite resourceful. I realized that I have great stamina as I was able to operate for long hours on end. I was able to keep my spirits high and motivate my team mates when the situation called for it. I surprised myself as I was more patient than I thought I could be. I also found that that I could and should continue to hone my skills in managing people and influencing them. I felt very heartened by the level of professionalism and cohesion demonstrated by all the Los, working in synergy with the organizers to ensure the smooth running of the games. Despite the rapid and many changes of SOPs and what-nots, there was ready sharing of information with one another (sometimes along corridor, in lifts, at competition grounds or at the dining room) to keep everyone updated of the latest development should one miss out on the morning briefing. Given that there were so many people involved in the operation, it is essential to be patient when things don’t go your way. One has to adjust his expectations and be flexible with how fast and fluid information is circulated and procedures changed and in doing so, react accordingly. At the end of it, we cover each other’s back as we are part of one big engine.
I found that that working with so many people enriched my repertoire of skills and knowledge as I had the opportunity to interact and learn from such an extensive pool of people with such varied experiences. The collective wisdom at the end of AYG helped make the event a successful one. I think that in any relationship, working or otherwise, it is paramount to ensure the other party’s well-being is taken care of and his opinion/input matters. This way, you can be assured of his allegiance and support. At the end of the AYG, I am pleased to say that there was much improvement in the organization and running of the event. I appreciate the fact that our feedback was taken seriously by the MOE side and action was taken to address some of the issues raised.
My involvement in AYG has truly been meaningful and memorable.

AYG is really a good experience for me. I gained alot of things by going for the AYG. First of all, I managed to know more about Asian countries such as Bangladesh , China , Korea and many more. I made alot of friends which was so helpful and kind and they were very fun to talk to. I learnt about their lifestyle, culture and their habits through them. It was quite interesting.
Secondly, I managed to know more about other sports. Usually, I like to play sports such as basketball and soccer but AYG has made me know more about other sports such as shooting and volleyball. I was given the duty to take care of the athletes from Bangladesh for shooting. I felt excited as it was my first time watching shooting. As I watched, I began to understand the procedures of shooting. This goes the same for volleyball. I went to watch the sport at Sentosa and began to learn how to play it. Overall, it was a fun and exciting journey through AYG. It has made me more open to sports, people and the world.

I had the wonderful opportunity to be a part of the first Asian Youth Games. As part of the team who was in charge of our NOC - Bangladesh booth, I took great pride in undertaking my responsibility of setting up the booth and interacting with athletes and officials from the various visiting countries with our student leaders. I will definitely hold this immensely enriching experience close to heart!

This AYG experience has give me an opportunity to meet people from some parts of the world and given me the chance to make new friends. Not only did I make friends from different countries but also with the teachers and student volunteers from the different schools in Singapore . The Bangladesh athletes were very friendly and playfully teased others. With that, it created a huge bond between the players and our student volunteers. If we had another chance to go for the YOG, it will be another new experience and a great adventure for us to learn new things and interact more with the players. Also, we can gain some knowledge about the sports they play.

This AYG has been enriching as I had a chance to experience how a global event is organized It gave me a sense of pride and achievement that I am helping out with the world’s 1 st Asian Youth Games. Through this event, I was able to interact with youths and officials from other countries. Though there were language barriers, we still attempted to have simple conversations.

A Great Experience, and a wonderful opportunity for students to meet up with the youth from Asia . Also a learning journey about different cultures and games. A chance to be a leader and bring along a group of athletes out to explore Singapore . With this, we gained confidence in meeting people and we gave them a great stay here with us.
