The Olympic Torch Relay
A new torch is created for every Games. Each relay runner carries his/her own torch. The flame is passed from one runner to another which cannot be extinguished. The Torch Relay starts from Olympia to the host city/country of the Games. The Olympic Flame crosses different regions, countries and continents. |
The Ancient & Modern Olympic Games
In 393 AD the Romans considered the Olympic Games a pagan ritual, and abolished it. Baron Pierre de Coubertin revived the modern Olympic Games in 1896 AD. |
Olympic Oath
The Olympic oath was written by Baron Pierre de Coubertin. A symbolic gesture of sportsmanship. An athlete from the host country will lead in the Olympic Oath at the Opening Ceremony. |
